How To Get High Quality HD Footage Using Just Your iPhone

Get HD high quality footage using iphone

“I want to shoot stuff, but I don’t want it to be super low quality!”

This line and variations of it are something I hear often.

Yes, although a videographer or production team will probably be able to do a better job, there shouldn’t be anything stopping you from confidently shooting videos when you need to.

It’s no secret that quality video content can have a positive impact on your business, but how can you capture it when:

  • You don’t have expensive equipment
  • You’re busy running the day to day operations that keep your business afloat
  • You don’t want to deal with the learning curve that comes with shooting video

These are common issues that can be solved by learning how to shoot high-quality content for your business using just your smartphone.

Creating this content will put you ahead of your competition as most people are ignoring video content creation altogether! If you didn’t understand the power that video has, you probably wouldn’t be reading this.

By the end of this post, you’ll know the secret to getting high-quality footage using just your iPhone and why the native camera app is not enough to always get the quality of footage you seek.

The iPhone has limitations

I’m going to let you in on a little secret…

Although the native iPhone camera works well and can capture high definition footage with the right lighting setup, it is limited in its capabilities that you get straight from the factory.

Sure, you can adjust things like your brightness some within the native camera app, but that’s just scratching the surface of the power that is hidden in your iPhone.

Once you truly learn what your iPhone can do, you’ll never want to capture video using the native camera application again. You’ll also be able to amaze people because most of them won’t be using these tools that are available to them.

To pass these limitations, you have to use external apps

To many photographers and videographers, it’s no secret that you have to use iPhone applications to get the most out of the camera and access the full range of uses.

There are many different apps that can do this, and of course, some are more popular than others, but there are always apps that stand out amongst the crowd.

There’s a range of apps for both photos and videos, but today I’ll just be focusing on the video app that I personally use and have been able to get great results with.

One of the apps that consistently stands out is the Filmic Pro app. Not only have I gotten used to using this app to capture footage when my camera isn’t on hand, but sometimes I’ll even use it as a second camera if the situation calls for it.

The Filmic Pro app is arguably the best application for capturing HD video footage

As someone who creates videos nearly every day, I can’t tell you how many times the Filmic Pro application has allowed me to capture 1080p high definition footage using just my iPhone at the right moment, even unexpectedly.

If you’ve used a DSLR camera before, you know what terms like ISO, shutter speed & dynamic range mean. If you haven’t and want to start shooting videos, you should eventually learn what these terms mean because they are central to the camera working, but to start you only need to understand how to use Filmic Pro. Filmic pro gives you the option to have full control over elements like these while you’re shooting, you can even change what the camera is focusing on and watch it change in real time.

With this control, suddenly you can get the lighting just how you want it! You can get crisp focus on the object you want to focus on, you can control light in your shots & do so much more than you imagined possible. I have a free 5-day course that teaches you how to shoot using the app, the equipment you should get for smartphone shooting and more! You can click here to sign up.

While using the application, there are definitely a few things you should consider.

Things to think about while using the Filmic Pro application

Sure, high definition video matters, but as any serious video creator will tell you, there are elements outside of a physical camera that contribute to how good an image looks to the eye.

Light & sound are very important to how videos come out, so you want to think about how you will always be able to see and hear your subject clearly, regardless of the time of day or conditions going on around the camera.

Although it’s easy to just hit record and think about the sound in a video later, there are often negative consequences like not being able to clearly hear your subject speak. Imagine a tutorial or promotional video where you couldn’t hear the persons voice? It would probably drive you insane if it was something you were looking forward to watching.

To make sure I always have enough light regardless of the setting, I like to use this light. To make sure I always have good sound and people can hear my subjects voice, I like to use Bluetooth microphones like these.
